Master Artists:

Seth Apter is a mixed media artist, instructor, author and designer from New York City. My artwork has been exhibited in multiple exhibitions and can be found in numerous books and national magazines. Seth has published two books, The Pulse of Mixed Media and The Mixed-Media Artist, and eight mixed-media workshop videos/DVDs with North Light Media. He is an instructor at Pratt Institute in NYC and his live workshops have been held throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia and the UK. Seth also designs product lines with Impression Obsession, StencilGirl Products, PaperArtsy,  and Emerald Creek Craft Supplies.

Sharon Payne Bolton’s mixed-media work invites the viewer to step into a mysterious past, somehow familiar yet just out of reach. From her curiosity boxes to her artist books and paintings, she uses found objects such as keys, photos, maps, and letters to weave an intriguing narrative of a long-gone time both real and imagined. Her pieces have a provocative ambiguity and urge the viewer to be part of the artistic process by imbuing them with new meaning. They are cryptic history.  Sharon divides her time between her studios in Sun Valley, Idaho and the San Francisco Bay Area and has shown her work in galleries in both venues. She spent a year living in the south of France, an experience that greatly influenced her work as many found objects from her life there find their way into her work. She recently led a group to the South of France for a week long art retreat. Her work has appeared many times in the mixed media magazine Somerset Studio and she gives workshops at both of her studios. She serves as a Core Art Educator for Art is You Mixed Media Art Retreats, and will be teaching with Art is You in Australia in the Fall of 2018.. She shows her work at art fairs in both Idaho and California, winning “Best Booth” at the Ketchum Art Festival in Sun Valley, Idaho in 2010, and “Best of Show” at the Mill Valley, CA Arts Festival in 2016.

Guest Story Teller

Each day our O Hello Happiness Gal, Kim Geiser will reach in and draw out stories you didn’t know were there while taking you on a colorful, and creative journey with unexpected twists and turns.

Table of Contents

A table of contents typically is an abbreviated listing of chapters in a book and provides an overview of what can be found on the pages within. In our workshop, we will be visually documenting our own personal stories and creating a one-of-a-kind Table of Contents that reflects the chapters of our lives.

You will create a series of mixed media booklets that, when stacked together, express your story. The booklets can reflect different ages or stages in your life, people in your world, aspects of your self, experiences you have had, etc. Or you can simply make an un-themed, kick-ass artist book!. Techniques we will explore together include painting in layers, surface design, book binding, hand stitching, creating patina on paper, mark making, and more.

Kit Fee of $50 includes all tools and paints you need for your booklets.

Please Bring: 2 book covers, approximately 6 x 9 inches (can be larger or smaller).  Bring 12+ sheets of watercolor paper as the base for your book pages and your choice of other material for pages such as velum, deli paper, transparencies, vintage book pages, photographs, thin fabric, tissue, handmade paper, cardstock, decorated paper

All experience levels are welcome. Come treat yourself and join the fun!

Inside the Box: Miniature Cabinet of Mysteries

Sharon offers a new workshop to create an intriguing two-level cabinet box with small drawers, trays and compartments to fill with tiny treasures or just to show off.

Using book board, Apoxie Clay, papers, paint, found objects and created objects, we will explore, play, and create for three full days.

We will bind mini books with the Coptic Stitch and other binding methods to nestle into your box.

All the tools and materials you will need to create your box will be provided. You don’t have to bring anything. Sharon will also provide access to a generous selection of vintage books and paper ephemera, nautical charts and found objects from her personal collection, for you to use in creating your box.

Kit Fee of $50 includes all you need to complete your box.

All experience levels are welcome. Come treat yourself and join the fun!
