One Day Workshop

In this class, you will learn how to paint a whimsical, fun character, using a variety of techniques and supplies.   We will discuss different face shapes, body shapes, the value of idea journals and my method of putting it all together in a humorous, interesting way. 

Supplies:

• Brushes for Watercolor Paint – I like a sable size 4 and 6. The brushes do not have to be expensive but they do need to be specifically for watercolor paint.
• Watercolor Paint – I use QOR (a Golden line of paints) and Daniel Smith but you can use whatever brand you like. I have a plastic travel pallet with all my colors already inside so I’m always ready to start at a moment’s notice. I prefer the QOR because it comes in tubes and the colors are super-bright. I have used the pan-type pallets, as well. Use what you like.
• A tube of white gouache, white acrylic or white gesso for adding highlights
• Watercolor paper – I am currently in love with the line of pads called “Fluid Easy Block”. They come in pads of 15 sheets (bound on 2 sides), lots of different sizes and are inexpensive. They are great for travel and the paper is very nice. They come in Hot Press (smooth) or Cold Press (slightly rougher texture). I love them both.  
• Faber Castell Pitt Pens in sizes S and XS. You can use other brands as long as they have permanent Indian Ink. After using all brands, the Faber Castell are my favorite and I don’t use other brands.

Optional: A dip pen with a flexible nib and a bottle of Indian Ink. I personally use the dip pen on every painting but sometimes the Indian Ink doesn’t travel well and leaks so I always put the little bottle inside a plastic bag just in case).

Optional: A few Faber Castell Pitt Pens in colors. I use the size S not the brush tips. I use these for adding details on top of color. These are relatively inexpensive and really add something to the image.
