Creating a still life with flair

Join me as we expand upon my Painterly Petals class* and go deeper into creating an abstract background to paint our floral on to. I will share with you some of my favorite techniques for creating interesting backgrounds, using ephemera, drips and incorporating writing in the painting. We will use reference photos and do some fun sketch studies prior to heading to the canvas. Looking at value and layering in our paintings. We will be creating a fun, textural, and maybe even a little abstract painting. I can’t wait to see you there! 

*no previous experience or paint classes necessary! 

Supplies:

  • watercolor paper – 11×14 sketch book
  • graphite pencils
  • paper towels
  • water vessel
  • 1 gallery canvas 24″x 24″
  • water spray bottle
  • oil pastels
  • Hair dryer or hear gun  (to help dry in between layers) 
  • china markers in white and black
  • a variety of acrylic paints in fun floral colors
  • a variety of paint brushes in various sizes: filbert, round and line brushes,
  • gel medium
  • palette knife or old credit card to use with gel medium
  • paper ephemera: book pages, music sheets, magazine pages, old ledgers etc.
  • your favorite (3-4) colors of high flow acrylics
  • acrylic inks in multiple colors
  • white chalk
  • Stabilo All pencil in black
  • Tombow markers (fine-med) in black and white

Kit Fee: $50.00

I realize a lot of folks may be traveling by air and bringing supplies may be difficult. The kit will include use of the class set of acrylic paints, inks, and high flow acrylics, gel medium, oil pastels, spray bottles and watercolor paper. A 24″ x 24″ gallery canvas or watercolor paper, and china markers will also be available to use. If the kit is purchased all the painter needs to bring is paper towels, a sketch book, graphite pencils and their favorite paint brushes
